QP doll

My patterns are free for personal use. I did not test this pattern, it is free partly because of that. There may be some typos. If you have questions, hit me up on twitter or instagram @andreacrochets.

Do not sell anything made from my patterns unless for charity/non-profit purposes.

This doll is modeled after the design of Rose O'Neill. Over the years there have been many different versions of kewpie dolls. Ceramic, vinyl, rubber, etc. This is my tiny yarn version of a kewpie doll. I modeled it after a rubber craft kewpie doll that I own.

Materials
E hook (3.50 mm)
flesh color yarn (I use Red Heart in buff)

NOTE: this doll is worked from the feet up to the head. I will have instructions for
2 different styles: 4 moving limbs or just moving arms.

FOOT - (make 2)
~ magic ring
~ 6 single crochets in magic ring, 3 sc into the first single crochet of magic ring (8)
~ BACK LOOP ONLY for this round only unless otherwise specified: 1 sc in next 5 sts, 3 sc together (6)
~ BOTH LOOPS: 1 sc in each stitch around
~ 1 sc in each stitch around
~ 1 sc in each stitch around
~ 1 sc in each stitch around

******************************************************************
FOR MOVING FEET OPTION:
Do one more row of 1 sc in each stitch around. Bind off leaving a long tail on both feet.
weave tail through the last round sts and pull together like a draw string, secure with a knot.
When you have both feet completed, you will attach them together with a knot by pulling one
string on each side towards the middle of the doll and knotting. This is the same method used to attach the moving arms. Trim tails and hide the ends inside body.

MOVING FEET BODY:

~ magic ring
~ 6 scs in magic ring (6)
~ 2 scs in each st around (12)
~ *1 sc, 1 inc* around (18)
Work the rest of the body as the standing feet, I will mark with $$$$$
*****************************************************************

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOR STANDING FEET OPTION: bind off only first foot, follow next section

JOINING THE STANDING FEET:

~ working with second foot, single crochet 3 stitches (you should end up on the middle of
the side of the foot) ch 2, pick up the other foot. point the toes of both feet towards you.
you should start in around the same spot as the opposite foot, join with a single crochet and
single crochet around the entire foot, then single crochet in that same stitch you did the first
joining single crochet. single crochet 1 in each of the 2 chains joining the feet. single crochet
in the same stitch as last sc of the first foot. single crochet 6, single crochet 1 in each of
the 2 chain stitches on the other side. this will be where you mark the start of the round. (18)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BODY/TORSO (this is for both moving feet and standing options)
$$$$$ - (here is where you will continue the body for the moving feet)

    - bind off and leave a tail to weave thru 4 stitches and pull drawstring
this will leave you a pointy head like kewpies have a little pointy hair on their head

HANDS (make 2)

NOTE: there is probably a better way to do this, but I did the hands this way in an attempt to
make fingers, if you come up with a better way, comment below and I will credit you

~ magic ring
~ *1 sc, 1 chain* 4 times for 4 fingers, single crochet, (single crochet, ch 1) for a thumb, single crochet. pull tight the magic ring.
~ working only in the single crochet stitches, ignore the chains, single crochet, dec, dec, single crochet, single crochet (5)
~ 1 sc in each st around for 4 rounds.
    - bind off leaving a long tail. weave tail thru the 5 stitches and pull like a draw string. secure it.
find the 2 decreases on last rnd of body. count 2 stitches over on both sides. insert tail
pull tail to back of body. secure a knot, hide knot inside body. hands will be moveable (see photo for
    moving feet)

Embroider the face as you wish. I have included 2 different examples of how I embroider them. If you want to use beads or safety eyes, insert where the decreases for eyes are. Kewpies are looking off to the side, so put them on one side of the decreases, not necessarily center.
